Dec 14, 2005 · Another old Houston kiddie amusement park was Wee Wild West on Post Oak. Playland Park was owned by the Slusky brothers, Sam and Louis. After Sam was killed in the racetrack accident in 1959, Louis lost interest and closed it. IIRC Louis never lived in Houston, Sam was active in running the park and track.

I am not old enough to remember playland park, or most of these places, but I do know about the kiddie park with the "tired old ponies" that was over by Braeswood. Kiddie Wonderland was off S. Main and Kirby. I think the actual location was 7800 S. Main, if my memory is correct.

In one of the identifying maps, Murray's parcel is just underneath Playland Park's parcel, which had an address of 9200 South Main Street. Murray Rubber Company's land on South Main Street was between Westridge Street and Murworth Street.

We would collect coupons from anyone that would give to us, ride bus from Near North Side to Playland, & ride Roller Coaster 30 or 40 times.
