Steven Kwan hit a two-run home run, Tanner Bibee struck out eight in five innings, and the Cleveland Guardians beat the Kansas City Royals 6-4 on Saturday night to earn a doubleheader split. Kansas City won the first game 5-3 with a walk-off homer in the 10th inning.
Brayan Rocchio opened the inning with a double. Austin Hedges moved him to third with a bunt and Kwan unloaded on a 2-2 curveball for his ninth homer of the season and a 6-2 lead. The homer was the longest of Kwan’s career and his third in the last three games. It must mean his strained right wrist is starting to feel better.
Major League Baseball's trade deadline is scheduled for next Thursday, which means teams have less than a week to get their midsummer shopping done. The moves have already started, as the Mariners recently acquired Josh Naylor from the Diamondbacks while the Yankees acquired Ryan McMahon in a trade with the Rockies.
Steven Kwan continued his power surge with his third home run in his last three games to help the visiting Cleveland Guardians beat the Kansas City Royals 6-4 in the nightcap to earn a doubleheader split on Saturday.
