A possible standoff is brewing over who will replace Alina Habba as US attorney in New Jersey with her interim appointment set to expire Friday.

In rare instances when judges have selected prosecutors, judges have typically appointed the same temporary U.S. attorney picked by the president, allowing for consistency and minimal disruption. Desiree Grace, in a social media post, said she was prepared to follow a judicial order and take over as U.S. attorney in New Jersey “in accordance with the law.”
