The top heat index in Washington on a sultry Tuesday appeared to be 103. The heat index, the “feels-like” temperature, exceeded 100 degrees again in Washington on Tuesday, in a sort of demonstration that history does repeat itself, while also authorizing use of the expression déjà vu.

A dangerous heat wave continues across a large part of the United States, with more than 130 million people under extreme heat watches and warnings from South Dakota to Florida.

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for our Hump Day. This means that heat index values could climb OVER 110 degrees. Tuesday, Meridian’s highest heat index value was 115. Sadly, our entire area could experience something similar for Wednesday.

THE NEXT BIG THING: Afternoon storms will be more likely for the remainder of the week. The greatest chance for development will be after 2 p.m. and some storms may be severe. However, it’s still summer in Alabama, so we will have highs in the upper 80s and possibly low 90s before the storms start popping up.
