Colman Domingo is opening up about the "hopeful" message of his latest Oscar-nominated film, " Sing Sing ." Domingo, whose work in the film earned him an Academy Award nomination for best actor, stopped by "Good Morning America" on Monday to reflect on what this project means to him.

The actor says he's never before put so much of himself into a role. How could he not? His co-stars once actually lived in that world.

When Colman Domingo was making The Color Purple in Atlanta, he drove past three penitentiaries on the way to rehearsals. “I had never thought about prisons,” he recalls. “I sort of looked away. It was almost like a stain that you didn’t want to look at because you didn’t want to be there. You didn’t want to know anybody there.”

Sing Sing is not currently available to stream on any subscription-based services, but the film will eventually be coming to streaming, on Max, thanks to the 2023 deal between A24 and Warner Bros. Discovery, which brings A24’s previous and upcoming theatrical releases to the streaming service Max.
