Winter weather alerts were prompted in some 14 states on Monday as meteorologists warned of heavy snowfall and winds gusting up to 100 miles per hour in some areas.

The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings for parts of Oregon, Washington, and Michigan, with forecasts predicting up to 20 inches of snow in some areas.
