President Donald Trump is heading to the Supreme Court for the first time in his second term, using an emergency appeal to call on the justices to let him fire the head of a government ethics watchdog agency.

Trump may ultimately defy judges and the rule of law, but at first he’ll bid for Supreme Court recognition of vastly expanded presidential powers.

The filing amounts to a challenge to a foundational precedent that said Congress can limit the president’s power to fire leaders of independent agencies.
