The 1st Rhode Island Regiment was an integrated unit composed of Black, Indigenous and white soldiers who served together.

The Regiment numbered about 950 men altogether, 33 of whom were sick and wounded, and who received the special care and attention of their well comrades during the journey hither.

Events will highlight Rhode Island's contributions to the American Revolution, including the 1st Rhode Island Regiment, the nation's first racially integrated military unit.
