Umbrellas and warm winter layers are needed and possible snow gear for some this week. High temperatures may linger in the 30s and 40s through midweek.

A winter storm is expected to hit northeastern North Carolina and parts of Virginia, resulting in heavy snow, school closures and travel disruptions. Warnings are in place, with up to seven inches of snow expected.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Alleghany, Ashe, Grayson, Carroll, Patrick, Henry, and Pittsylvania counties for accumulating snow, sleet, and freezing rain. A Winter Weather Advisory has been for Surry, Stokes, Rockingham, Caswell, Wilkes, and Yadkin counties for the possibility of light accumulating snow, sleet, and freezing rain.

Storm Harlow is ramping up from Kentucky east, through the Mid-Atlantic and parts of the Northeast. Icing is a big threat in Roanoke & Richmond, Virginia and even as far south as Greensboro, North Carolina.
