Karlyn Pickens threw the fastest pitch ever recorded at 78 mph in as she led Tennessee softball to win over Arkansas on Monday.

Texas Tech's NiJaree Canady also ranks as one of the fastest pitchers ever, as she hit 75 mph at Stanford last season and could challenge Abbott's mark of 77 mph before her career is done. Tennessee is king when it comes to velocity, as former Volunteers pitcher Ben Joyce set an NCAA baseball record with a 105.5 mph pitch in 2012.

Pickens had a phenomenal outing in the circle over the last week for the Lady Volunteers. Pickens picked up three ranked wins over No. 14 Arkansas and No. 2 Oklahoma in addition to breaking the record for the fastest college softball pitch ever thrown, 78.2 mph, in the Lady Vol’s win over the Razorbacks.
