Legendary West Virginia quarterback Pat White is returning to WVU as the assistant quarterbacks coach/assistant to the head coach under Rich Rodriguez, the program announced Wednesday. White played for Rodriguez from 2005-07 during a legendary three-year run for the Mountaineers and was most recently an offensive assistant for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2022 and 2023.

After Neal Brown was fired as the head coach of the Mountaineers after another disappointing season, Rich Rodriguez was hired as the program’s next head coach, and by most accounts, this was a grand slam hire for Wren Baker and West Virginia University.

After six seasons under Neal Brown as head coach, the West Virginia Mountaineers moved on-or moved back rather-to one of the program's most successful coaches in its history in Rich Rodriguez. Rodriguez left the program after six seasons back in 2006 for Michigan,

From 2004 to 2008, one name carried an entire college football program: West Virginia's Pat White. A two-time Big East Offensive Player of the Year and three-time member of the first-team All-Big East, White led the Mountaineers to national prominence.

West Virginia University football coach Rich Rodriguez’s staff continues to grow just months after returning to the program. Rodriguez announced Wednesday afternoon that legendary Mountaineer quarterback Pat White will be returning to the Mountain State.

"It's really special to welcome Pat White back to Morgantown as a member of our football coaching staff," Rich Rodriguez said.
