The U.S. Supreme Court confirmed Friday that just because a person in New York State only hires someone to commit murder doesn't mean that person isn't guilty of a violent crime.

The Court of Appeals upheld a lower-court ruling that had declared unconstitutional the city’s bid to allow noncitizens to vote.

The New York Court of Appeals, the state's highest court, blocked a law on Thursday allowing non-citizens to vote in local elections. A former New York City Council member responded to the ruling by saying it should have been an "open and shut case" and that the law was "embarrassing.
