By Brad Brooks (Reuters) -The mayor of a Texas city at the center of flash flooding that killed over 130 people earlier this month asked state lawmakers on Thursday to help get a warning system in place within a year.

New flood warnings have been issued along the Guadalupe River in Texas less than two weeks after flooding killed more than 100 people.

F or the first time since catastrophic flooding killed more than 100 people in Kerr County, Texas, the county emergency management director conceded that he was sick and asleep as the water rose to historic levels on the Guadalupe River.

National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the areas of Central Texas hit most by the deadly flooding over Fourth of July weekend.

The summer of flooding could continue in Philadelphia, New York City and New Jersey Thursday as storms move over the mid and northeast.

Storms and flood threats are headed for the New York City area, prompting a string of First Alert Weather Days through the end of the work week. Heavy rain that may cause flooding is expected both Thursday and Friday.
