The 31-year-old shot-stopper previously played for Liverpool, FSV Mainz 05, Besiktas, FC Union Berlin and Newcastle United. Schalke moved to secure Karius following the loan of Ron-Thorben Hoffmann to Eintracht Braunschweig.
