Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein appeared in a Manhattan court this week, asking for his trial to be moved up from April 15, 2025, due to serious health problems, according to Hollywood Reporter.
Harvey Weinstein begged to go on trial earlier than planned, saying he isn't sure he will survive long enough in the "hell hole" of New York's Rikers Island jail complex.
Calling Rikers a “stain on this city,” Weinstein, 72, said he was advocating on behalf of all detainees at the jail.
Harvey Weinstein is scheduled to return to court today, where the judge is set to decide when his retrial will start.
During the court hearing, Weinstein pushed for an earlier trial date, citing his health. "I can’t hold on anymore," he said.
Weinstein was arraigned in September on the count of a criminal sexual act in the first degree, which stemmed from a recent indictment returned by a grand jury. He pleaded not guilty to the charge, which carries a sentence of up to 25 years in prison.
