Former Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has signed with second-division German club Schalke in an attempt to revive his career.

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius is set to undergo a medical with German side Schalke 04 after considering retirement. The 31-year-old has been without a club since leaving Newcastle United in 2024.

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius may be handed yet another career lifeline. The shot-stopper spent time at Newcastle United last season but did not sign a long-term deal. The issue for Karius is that Schalke are in the second division at present, not the Bundesliga.

Schalke 04 have signed Loris Karius on a contract running until the end of the current season. The 31-year-old shot-stopper previously played for Liverpool, FSV Mainz 05, Besiktas, FC Union Berlin and Newcastle United. Schalke moved to secure Karius following the loan of Ron-Thorben Hoffmann to Eintracht Braunschweig.

The 31-year-old admitted in November that he was considering hanging up his gloves after failing to find the right club. As a free agent, he had plenty of offers, including in Saudi Arabia, but wanted to remain close to his Italian TV presenter wife Diletta Leotta and their daughter Aria.
