Buffalo Bills running back James Cook tied O.J. Simpson's record for the most rushing touchdowns in a season in the loss to the New England Patriots.

Cook still had something to play for one touchdown shy of tying Simpson's record. He was given four carries inside the Patriots' 15-yard line on Buffalo's second possession, including one from the 1-yard line, but was unable to get into the end zone.

As the Bills fell to the Patriots in the regular-season finale, Cook recorded his 16th rushing touchdown of the season, which tied the single-season franchise record set by O.J. Simpson in 1975.

“It was big,” Cook said to the media in the postgame. “Just to have your name in the record book is great, man. First of all, I’ve gotta give thanks to my O-line, though. Without them, nothing would be possible. Just blessed.”

His Buffalo Bills just lost a 44-42 game that saw his defense get ravaged, torn apart with little resistance. Worse, the Rams made it a slow burn by keeping the Buffalo defense on the field for over 38 minutes.
