A Friday hearing is set for Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland father mistakenly deported by the Trump Administration to a supermax prison in El Salvador. Despite the mistake government has made no efforts to rescue him.

The Trump administration said it made an “administrative error” in deporting a Maryland man to a prison in El Salvador. Although the man has a protected legal status, the administration said he has alleged ties to local gangs and is refusing to bring him back to the United States.

Federal prosecutors argued that U.S. courts have no jurisdiction to order the man’s release because he is no longer in U.S. custody.

The Trump administration has until 11:59 p.m. Monday to return to the United States a Maryland man who the government admits was accidentally deported to a high-security prison in El Salvador.

A federal judge called the deportation of a Maryland man to a notorious Salvadoran prison a “grievous error,” adding that the Trump administration’s conduct “shocks the conscience.” The judge has ordered the government to return the man,
