X-Men stars Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart are reprising their roles by joining the cast of Marvel's forthcoming Avengers: Doomsday. The film is set for release in May 2026, with Robert Downey Jr already announced as playing villain Doctor Doom.

Marvel has announced the return of some Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) stars in 2026's "Avengers: Doomsday," including Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes and Tom Hiddleston as Loki.

Robert Downey Jr. returns to the MCU with other confirmed actors including stars Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, 'X-Men' stars like Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, and a good chunk from the studio's 'Thunderbolts.

The recent Marvel Studios’ livestream revealing the cast for Avengers: Doomsday pretty much broke the internet. Over 5 1/2 long hours, a video glided over chairs with actors’ names on it, revealing 27 cast members for the upcoming film.
