California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Thursday that he is moving forward with putting proposed new congressional maps for the state on the ballot in a Nov. 4 special election in an attempt to counter mid-decade redistricting being pushed by Republicans in Texas.

Gavin Newsom warned President Donald Trump. “It’s time to, dare I say, do the right thing.”Newsom has a history of locking horns with Trump, especially as the former has emerged as a strong contender for the Democratic presidential nomination for 2028—a race that Trump has repeatedly teased running in despite constitutional term limits and one in which his legacy will be tested nonetheless.

Voters will be tasked with approving new congressional maps in a special election in November, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced.
