The United States said on Thursday it would impose sanctions on Sudan after determining that its government used chemical weapons in 2024 during the army’s conflict with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces,

The announcement came shortly after the Sudanese Army announced that it had pushed the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary out of the capital, Khartoum.

The State Department’s announcement comes months after U.S. officials found evidence that Sudan’s military had used chemical weapons against its paramilitary rival.
