Originally, Hillside was on a list with nine other elementary schools considered for closure based on a scoring system that evaluated enrollment, teacher vacancies, and facility quality.
School activities are continuing as usual, Hollar said, by using emergency lighting. Due to this power outage, bells, phones, and internet at Hillside Elementary are also experiencing outages.
