Sovereignty defeated a field of 18 challengers to win the 151st Kentucky Derby Saturday evening at Churchill Downs amid soggy conditions. Sovereignty entered the race with 5-to-1 odds.

Sovereignty won the 151st running of the Kentucky Derby, finishing the 1-1/4-mile race in two minutes and 2.31 seconds. The morning-line favourite Journalism was second while Baeza finished third.

Godolphin, which entered the Kentucky Derby at the top of the charts in earnings among North American thoroughbred owners in 2025, added a victory in the sport’s biggest race thanks to Sovereignty, the third favorite in the betting odds at 7-1.
