Lucknow: Congress MP from Sitapur, Rakesh Rathore, was arrested on Thursday on charges of raping a woman. He was taken into custody from his residence in Sitapur. The Allahabad high court had rejected Rathore's anticipatory bail plea on Wednesday and directed him to surrender within two weeks.

Rakesh Rathore, a Congress Member of Parliament (MP) from Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur was arrested by police on Thursday, on charges of raping a woman.

Rathore had filed a petition for anticipatory bail at the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court. The bench had turned down Rathore's plea for anticipatory bail and had asked him to surrender before the Sitapur district and sessions court within two weeks’ time.

An FIR was filed against Rathore on January 17 under charges of rape, criminal intimidation, and threatening with a firearm.
