New York Gov. Kathy Hochul joined a trio of Democrat governors and a slew of Republican governors in ordering flags to fly at full-staff for the inauguration of President-elect Trump.

Despite U.S. flag code restrictions, many flags in the United States will be at full staff. Just 22 days ago, the 39th president Jimmy Carter passed away. Flag code law states that the flag on a president’s inauguration day must be flown half-staff 30 days from the death of a former president.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican, last week ordered that flags at the U.S. Capitol be raised to their full height on Inauguration Day, pausing a 30-day order issued by President Joe Biden upon the death of President Jimmy Carter, who died Dec. 29 at age 100, the Associated Press reported. The flags will be lowered the following day.

Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella penned a letter to Gov. Kathy Hochul on Sunday and requested that she order New York to join 28 states in raising the American flag for President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday.
