Three weeks ago, 24 staffers submitted their predictions for The Athletic’s consensus men’s NCAA Tournament bracket. Eleven voters picked Duke to win the national championship, followed by six for Florida and five for Houston.
Walter Clayton Jr. scored 34 points and Florida beat SEC rival Auburn 79-73 in the Final Four on Saturday, sending the Gators to the national championship game for the first time since 2007.
Duke led by as many as 14 in the second half, but Houston clawed its way back as the Blue Devils went cold from the floor. The Cougars will face Florida in the national title game Monday.
