Gov. Maura Healey released a “comprehensive housing plan” Thursday morning, outlining strategies to lower costs and build 220,000 new units over the next decade to mitigate the state’s ongoing housing crisis.

The governor said the plan will increase housing production and sets a scheduled timeline to lower housing costs across the commonwealth. The plan, which included an in-depth analysis of the housing needs across Massachusetts, also identifies strategies for increasing production.

The move follows last year’s passage of Healey’s historic, more than $5 billion piece of legislation aimed at addressing the commonwealth’s ongoing housing crisis, a crunch felt harshly in Berkshire County, where limited stock, overwhelming demand, and stagnant wages bar many from finding dwellings.
