Mario Kart World will be adding a huge slate of new characters to the Mario Kart roster, albeit with a few interesting omissions.

Fans had been waiting months for Nintendo’s big Switch 2 Direct. But one thing that’s dominated the conversation following the showcase isn’t the games or the features, it’s the Switch 2's $450 price tag.

Nintendo is switching a few things up with its new console as it enters the next generation of gaming. The Switch 2 was unveiled Wednesday morning during a Nintendo Direct press conference, and Variety got a hands-on demo with the hardware and games launching on June 5.

The digital version of the game costs £66.99, it's another £8 on top of that for a physical copy - or pay an an extra £35 for a version of the Switch 2 with it built-in, something which pushes the console price to £429.99.

We knew a Mario Kart game was coming to the Switch 2, and now Nintendo has finally shared some real details in its latest Nintendo Direct. It’s called Mario Kart World, and it will be a day-one Switch 2 exclusive when the console launches on June 5th.

Mario Kart World will launch on 5 June, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. It’ll be available digitally via the Nintendo Store (£66.99, Nintendo.co.uk ), but the physical version comes in at an eye-watering £74.99 – that’s £15 more than premium titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which launched at £59.99.

Nintendo has announced a June 5 launch date and $449.99 price tag for its latest gaming console, the Switch 2, which will introduce interactive chat and screenshare functions to connect gamers.

Mario Kart World is the first Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive title and it will launch on the same day as the console.
