Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested a suspected Al-Qaida member residing in a city notorious for refusing to cooperate

A Worcester city councilor has been charged with assaulting and interfering with police officers during a chaotic ICE operation in the city last month.

Etel Haxhiaj is facing a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery on a police officer and interfering with a police officer. Body camera footage released by the city does not appear to show the councilor striking an officer.

In a video released by Marcelo Gomes da Silva's attorney on Wednesday, the teen's mother, father and two younger siblings asked ICE to release him.

It was a chaotic scene in Chicago's South Loop on Wednesday, as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and other officers took several people into custody.

Witnesses and an immigration advocate said about a dozen people were detained by apparent ICE agents after they were told to attend routine immigration appointments.
