Social media is flooded with images imitating Japanese animation company Studio Ghibli, whose co-founder once called AI-generated art an “insult to life itself.”
The disruption reportedly happened due to a sudden surge in demand, possibly from users generating AI images and text.
Users quickly began making the most of the policy change — sharing “Ghiblified” images of 9/11, Adolf Hitler, and the murder of George Floyd. The official White House account on X even shared a Studio Ghibli-style image of an ICE officer detaining an alleged illegal immigrant.
ChatGPT experienced a global outage, possibly due to overwhelming demand for its new Studio Ghibli-style AI image feature.
