The “Top Gun” actor, who died in Los Angeles on Tuesday of pneumonia, is survived by two children: daughter Mercedes, 33, and son Jack, 32.
Kilmer’s breakout role came as LT Tom “Iceman” Kazansky opposite Tom Cruise in Top Gun (1986). That was followed by the fantasy film Willow (1988). His big break as a leading man came with his swaying, leather-clad portrayal of Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s The Doors.
Actress Jennifer Tilly — who auditioned for the movie for the role that Meg Ryan landed as Morrison’s girlfriend, Pamela Courson — posted a loving tribute to Kilmer on X following the announcement of his death.
The actor stepped onstage at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas to showcase his upcoming film “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.”
