Its about 3kms. Would suggest to either have a auto or taxi. Ola service is available in Mysore. If you are first timer and coming as a tourist then it is not advisable to look for buses and waste your time, rather auto or taxi will be a good choice. Also if you are a tourist in Mysore, then you can engage an auto for the whole day with a bit of bargaining, which will sound economical considering the weather situations :)
Why the lake is open from 8:30 onwards?.. I understand the working staff timings but this is ideal place for joggers.. You can keep the birds sanctuary open from 8:30 but you should allow for jogging from at least 6am.. That would be great actually.. Please check on it if possible...

This may be because it is developed as a bird and butterfly sanctuary. Joggers might disturb the environment for these species. They need time for themselves, you know!
