Fantastic trip that also included Bryce and Zion NPs. Great hiking every day. Escalante and Hwy 12 were an unexpected and beautiful surprise. Incredible, untouched landscape. Let's keep it that way!Full review by Cindy K

Highway 12 is the major paved road in that area. Driving straight through from Long Junction to Torrey will take several hours, assuming there is no rain or snow. There is one section, known as the Hogsback, that was built on a thin spine and one can see very steep drop-offs on BOTH sides. At the ends of this stretch, one can pull off and possibly even turn around, but not in the middle. This is what makes this stretch of Hwy. 12 exciting to some people. Elsewhere on Hwy. 12, there are places where one can pull over and get out to look down into canyons as well. There are many roads in Utah that are steep and partly exposed, such as portions of the Burr Trail in Grand Staircase-Escalante NM, or the Moki Dugway that drops into the Valley of the Gods in SE Utah.
