We would like to take train from Tavira & visit Faro Old Town one day & then next day Loule. I have read conflicting info that the walk from the Faro train Stn is only 15-20 min walk OR that it it 5.5km ( a big difference). Similarly from Loule train stn … what could I expect to be my walk into historic old town? Thank you for your help.

It is a short walk to Faro old town, about 10 minutes. Don't know about Loulé. Google maps will help you with all such questions

You can go on the little train which goes from the marina but it isn't hop on hop off. I assume you mean to travel around the area not just Faro and yes you can on buses and trains …

The bus station is along the sea front from the right side of the marina and the train station is the same way but a little further. We went to Lagos on the train and also caught a bus to Olaho. We were only in Faro for 4 nights so didn't have time to go any further so spent most time in Faro itself
We are here in Tavira, visiting for the first time. We would like to take the bus to Faro for a day trip. First of all we need to find the bus stop or terminal and the times of the buses ... we're wondering how far the Faro bus station is from the old, historic area.

We jumped a taxi from Cabanas, try the train, you may find its a bit quicker?
